Who hates SMS?

Man I hate SMS/texting. Even with an iphone sending an SMS is such a fiddly affair. If you walked up to someone and stated that you had discovered a facility which gives you
real-time communication
duplex communication
you can hear the persons tone and voice
either person can initiate the communication
you can share the conversation with other people

Guess what. It’s called a phone!!! and it was invented years ago by a Scots bloke called Alexander Graham Bell. Wow what a neat idea. I’ll buy that for a dollar

So why is it that people insist on using SMS (Yes that is SHORT message service) to communicate with people. It is totally beyond me.

So what can SMS be used for in business?
1. When a work colleague is out of the office at a meeting or attending a seminar and you don’t what to interrupt.
2.  It can also be used to convey a website address which is not ‘voice friendly’: typing in a text SMS can be very useful. The iPhone can recognise this format and if you click on it, it will open up the browser to let you see it.
3. It can be used to distribute  messages to your subscribed audience (eg a sales force or an on site team or workers.

Well actually, now that I think about it,  that sounds like a few decent ideas so maybe I do like SMS after all…..just a wee bit. Who said SMS was no good in business?
